Rice Mission Month has launched and we will be running awareness activities throughout the month of May. Rice House will be promoting our House mandate of Growth, Presence and Fun and raising money and awareness for our charity Edmund Rice Camps.
Since 1991 Edmund Rice Camps Brisbane has been making a positive difference to the lives of young people in Queensland.
They respond to the needs of young people through the development of mutual and caring relationships in a fun filled and safe environment. They provide opportunities for personal growth and challenge to action for all drawn to the ideals of one of our founders Edmund Rice.
Our goal is to raise $2,000 to donate to Edmund Rice Camps. The following amounts of money will provide:
$20 will provide meals for a person on a camp for a day
$30 will pay for activity fees for one child on camp
$75 will pay for a tank of petrol for their mini bus to pick up kids for camp
$100 will support five volunteers to undergo training
$900 will sponsor a child to attend a full camp
This week we started fund raising with our Annual Bake Sale raising $700. This is a phenomenal effort by CMC students.
More importantly our goal is to recruit volunteers to help at these camps. This year we are hoping to recruit at least 10 students from Years 11 and 12.
To promote these ideals and raise money for Edmund Rice Camps, Rice House will be conducting the following activities:
- Chain Reaction – a paper chain created by all staff and students of CMC to symbolise our connectectiveness.
- Edmund Rice Festival on the 4th May – BBQ picnic and activities highlighting what Edmund Rice Camps do.
- House Tug of War competition.
- House Lip Syncing compeition.
- Busking and street performing around the College.
So please keep an ear and eye out for updates in the notices and around the school for some cool and interesting activities where we can engage in growth, being present and more importantly having fun!
