ORANGE FEST – R U OK Week

Welcome back to term 4 CMC!

As you have all heard this week is the beginning of Aspinall Mission Month (Orange Fest), and it is the final house mission of the year! There are some cool activities planned so stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks!

Orange Fest promises to be a bunch of fun however, we should also remember that Aspinall is raising awareness of another local community initiative. This charity is St Vincent De Paul, a Catholic organisation that offers a ‘hand up’ to those people who are struggling and in need (St Vincent de Paul Society. 2016). Vinnies truly lives up to their mandate of ‘Serving where there is a need’.

House Coordinator, Mr Morais explains how the month will be structured:

“Aspinall House Mission month is dictated by our mandate of Service. Working closely with the school’s St Vinnies group, we will split the month into 4 weeks of awareness.

These weeks include an R U OK week, awareness of refugees week, awareness of the homeless week and a hamper collection week. Due to this term being jam-packed full of activities, I’ll give you the breakdown for this week.

Week 1 – R U OK Week (10th – 14th Oct)

To kick off Aspinall’s mission, they are starting up a wall of thoughts. This wall is a positive reflection board where everyone is able to post their own notes for the entire school to see. The Vinnies Christmas hampers will also be allocated during this week in homeroom.

Working in conjunction with our Aspinall leaders, the Sport and Leisure Team have organised fun and interactive activities that raise awareness for those who may be suffering from depression. These activities include:

MONDAY and TUESDAY: LUNCHTIME movies in the AUDITORIUM

WEDNESDAY:

  • Free Cooked Brekkie in the morning
  • Face painting
  • Temporary Tattoos
  • YELLOW free dress
  • Mental Health Apps Tutorial – Bring your PHONE to the Auditorium

THURSDAY: Several Guest Speakers including people from Beyond Blue, RedFrogs, Headspace, the NRL and BATYR

FRIDAY: Fitness games at STRIDERS in the morning and music on the oval with sports equipment for hire (using your ID cards)

We support St Vinnies and will be working closely with our school St Vinnies group during the month.

The Student Voice and Aspinall House team will continue to give updates on what’s happening throughout the next few weeks. I hope to see you all there!
